Traveling with your family in an RV is a fun and rewarding experience, especially when you get to where you’re going. However, it can be the getting there that can wear on young minds, as hours in a car can take their toll if children feel bored and have nothing to do.

Your entertainment options while you drive are somewhat limited, which is why it’s important to have plenty of diversions at your disposal to boost the morale of your young troopers for whom a few hours of driving can seem like forever. We are here to help you and your family enjoy every moment of your RV vacation. Here are some of our favorite games for you and your children to play as you drive to merrily pass the time until you get to your destination.

I Spy

This classic game has been turned into a range of books and electronic games that require the player to locate hidden objects. You can purchase some books or download an app for children to play when quiet time is needed, but the road trip version is also a fun bonding game. Someone acts as the spy and hints at what they are looking at with a clue like, “I spy with my little eye something tall.” The item must be something that everyone can see through the windows, and you’ll have to bear in mind that certain objects may pass out of view quickly on the highway.

Alphabet Game

This game can take a short or a long amount of time depending on where you’re located. Sparser areas of the country can make it a bit more challenging. To play, start with the letter “A” and try to find it in a sign or something else seen outside the window. License plates and decals are generally not counted, and each word seen can only count for the person who spots it first. The winner is the first to go through the full alphabet.

20 Questions

As another type of guessing game, 20 Questions involves a person choosing some item while the remaining passengers guess what that item might be in 20 questions or less. The questions can only be answered with a “yes” or a “no.” It can help determine some categories, like “animals,” “foods,” “movies,” and so forth to help out younger players.

License Plate Spotting

A great diversion for when you’re traveling across state lines is to note down license plates from different states. Give children a list of all the states and have them check off each state that they see. Tourist attractions are a great place to spot unique license plates from all over the country.

These aren’t the only games you can play on RV road trips, but they’re great options. Searching for RVs for sale in Vernal, UT? Visit B&D RV Center to browse our selection today! We proudly serve all those in Salt Lake City, Utah; Grand Junction, Colorado; and Rock Springs, Wyoming.
