Buying a used travel trailer is a great way to save yourself money while still getting a trailer that meets all your needs for your traveling adventures. However, in order to ensure that the used trailer you’re buying has been taken care of by previous owners, you need to perform an inspection of it. Here are some things to look for when inspecting a used trailer that you may wish to purchase.

Examine Exterior

Walk around the used trailer to look for signs of damage, including worn or balding tires, serious dents, rust, corrosion, or broken slide-outs. Make sure that the windows and doors securely lock and that the hitch is in good condition.

Walk Through Interior

Enter the trailer and walk around inside to check for poorly installed aftermarket accessories, mold, mildew, corrosion, or water damage. Make sure the power and water systems function as they should. Look for signs of excess wear on furnishings that could require them to be replaced.

Get the Maintenance Records

Your final determining factor in whether you should purchase a used trailer is to obtain the trailer’s maintenance records from the seller, who should be happy to provide them to you. A well-maintained trailer will have had regular yearly inspections by a professional travel trailer mechanic, and it will have had tire changes and lubrications performed to ensure its proper functioning.
